I randomly came across a live session of Weathers while wandering on Youtube and I immediately suspected I was going to like more than this one song. Judging from the comments on the video, the public had been waiting for new songs for a while and indeed, I discovered that the four-piece based in Los Angeles had released two very well-received singles in 2016 and nothing since, until this year ! The vocalist Cameron Boyer apparently went through a difficult time in his life but was able to express it through writing music. The themes approached in their songs is actually one of the aspects that intrigued me, firstly because they are pretty introspective subjects treated rather cynically (which is kind of rare in this registry of music in my opinion) and secondly because the sentiment, the lyrics and the nonchalant way of singing of the frontman are contradictory with the tone of the music which is cheerful and dynamic. The best example would be their biggest hit to date « Happy Pills » which touches on addiction and depression through a very happy melody, which can be a bit confusing at first. That being said, the result is pretty explosive and I love it !

As it is often the case, it’s their dancing, retro-rock vibe that attracted me, and I liked their global aesthetic which I would classify as « rock chic », but it’s their voluntarily saturated sound (I don’t how else to describe it) that I found particularly addictive. I don’t know why but it gives some sort of magnitude and depth to the music. I also appreciate the variety you can find inside their own style, you can go from a song like « Poser » which is very 90’s rock to « The Night Is Calling » which makes me think of 80’s Disco and Soul music. On top of that, I love the energy delivered in the live session videos I’ve come across online, they promise an amazing experience in concert and I can’t wait to be able to judge for myself !
